Figured what better day to start in on this project than my bday?
When I heard that my fellow animators would be going up to Monterrey Bay for a 2 week, labor intensive animation boot camp, I was pretty jealous. So, I figured that I may as well get in on the action (awwww yeahhhh!) and do my own take of the program! From what I understand and from what I've heard, the program involves designing a character around a pre-existing mask and using said character in a 30 sec short. That, as well as having everything 100% done within a 2 week time frame. To that I say CHALLENGE ACCEPTED!
My goal is to do said short traditionally and have a clean looking pencil test at the end of the run. I would use Toon Boom, but since I'm already using it extensively for another project, I figured I'd polish up on the basics.
Day 1 Recap:
Found a great looking mask from the Congo to base my character off of:
Also settled on the basic premise of the story and started doing thumbs. Tomorrow's goal: have a fianl-ish looking head and thumbs! Also, video ref would be dandy too. But for now, off to work.
